Price: ¥20,000 per Unit
Unit Definition: 1 Unit = Up to 400 English words OR 880 Japanese characters.
Billing Policy: Fees are calculated based on the original source text.
Rounding: Projects are billed by the unit. Partial units are rounded up to the next full unit (e.g., a 500-word document = 2 units / ¥40,000).
Expansion Ratio: Standard 1:2.2 ratio applied for English-to-Japanese conversion.
Not sure how many units you need? Simply divide your word count by 320 and round up. (Example: 800 words = 3 Units).
Intellectual Property & Licensing
To ensure professional integrity and protect the long-term value of the work, all services are provided under a Standard Professional License with the following terms:
Commercial & Business Use: For restaurant menus, PR materials, internal corporate documents, and brochures, the base fee includes a standard license for up to 10,000 physical or digital copies. (Note: For most business applications, this serves as an effectively unlimited license).
Media, Broadcast & Web: For use in Films, TV programs, websites, or professional blogs, the license is granted for a single production/instance. To support professional transparency, the credit "Japanese Translation by Shintaro Takagi" (or similar) must be clearly visible.
Major Publications (Physical/Digital Books): For high-volume commercial publishing intended for retail, a 10% royalty applies to sales exceeding 10,000 copies. This ensures a fair partnership in the commercial success of the work.
Full Copyright Buyout: If your project requires a total transfer of all Intellectual Property rights (waiving all limits and royalties), this is handled via Custom Negotiation. Please contact me directly to discuss a bespoke buyout agreement.

On the Bukowski Project
Earlier in my career, I collaborated closely with Mr. Tetsuo Fujita (Tetsuhisa Udoguchi) at Village Press to translate the raw, unfiltered works of Charles Bukowski. Our work spanned numerous poetry volumes and the celebrated novel Hollywood. As the Japanese edition is currently out of print, I am actively seeking partners to facilitate a reprint. I possess deep institutional knowledge regarding the rights and history of these translations; please reach out if you wish to discuss this literary revival.
